UX consulting has come a long way since I first started web design in 1993. There is increased awareness of its importance and benefits, there are also processes such as the “double-diamond” approach that guides decision making. Moreover, years of experience with designing map interfaces, combined with our knowledge of human behavior – for instance understanding the difference between a system’s conceptual model in contrast to a user’s mental model – greatly enhance our abilities to design experiences that are better aligned and therefore easier to understand.
